Don’t Forget Your Humble Beginning!

M. Lyn Walker From Faith to Faith: A McGregor Novel 0 0

This month I attended the Black Writers and Book Clubs Literacy Festival in Memphis, Tennessee. Literacy was the focus of this truly outstanding event. As I watched young people receive their awards for reading and writing, I was struck by the basic fortitude of the young people in attendance. Truly it takes a village to teach literacy. Teachers, parents, grandparents, tutors, siblings and a host of other influencers helped each child reach his/her goal. Influencers purchased or borrowed books from…..

Pay It Forward!

M. Lyn Walker From Faith to Faith: A McGregor Novel 0 0

This past month I had the opportunity to “pay it forward” as the saying goes by sharing my personal testimony and offering heartfelt words of encouragement to another beginning author. Our discussion was spirited and enlightening, a meld of like-minded optimism and thankfulness. I hope my transparency was encouraging. You see, every mountain God allowed me to scale was a learning experience.

Often, others look at a finished product never truly understanding how many struggles were overcome, along the…..

Thank goodness for grace and mercy!

M. Lyn Walker From Faith to Faith: A McGregor Novel 0 0

Productively busy as usual, I just returned from the Dayton book Fair and a book signing in Columbus and will additionally sign books in Flint, Michigan and Louisville, Kentucky later this month. So far, unbelievable networking opportunities have presented themselves and I can’t wait to see what other divine connections the Holy Spirit will make.

Information gleaned from networking at the Dayton Book Fair was career changing. Talking with other authors was both educational and affirming. I left the…..

Build Your Platform!

M. Lyn Walker From Faith to Faith: A McGregor Novel 0 0

A few months ago WestBow Press sent out an email listing conferences, conventions and book fairs being held throughout the country. It was a gentle reminder that books don’t sell themselves. Rather, people sell books. Writing and publishing is the initial process. Then we must develop a platform and build our fan base. And this can’t be accomplished from home! I looked at the list and investigated each opportunity but soon realized there were other expos and conferences more specifically…..

The pace I’m running is one I set!

M. Lyn Walker From Faith to Faith: A McGregor Novel 2 0

For the past six months I’ve been in a learning curve, centered on promotion, book sales and entrepreneurialship. It’s been intense and I’m not complaining. But running a business from home, balancing family obligations, not to mention all of my other volunteer work and writing takes delicate balance that at times, has stressed a sista all the way out! During those weeks, when there truly have been more obligations than hours, only deep breathing, prayer and the Holy Spirit’s guidance…..

Write a book? I’ve been meaning to!

M. Lyn Walker From Faith to Faith: A McGregor Novel 0 0

I’ve always been a voracious reader, even during childhood so no one was surprised when I majored in English, although writing was a secret passion. While growing up in rural Michigan, I rarely had to look outside my large extended family for entertainment. My younger sister and I would frequently quip, “We’re putting that in our book.” She’s a hoot and I really have to thank her for jump-starting my writing. Six years ago, we tossed around topics for a…..

I am super excited about my KIRKUS REVIEW!

M. Lyn Walker From Faith to Faith: A McGregor Novel 2 0

KIRKUS REVIEWS – December 25, 2013 Two novellas about losing and finding God in unlikely ways. Both these stories by debut author Walker ask the question: If we ignore God, will he ignore us? In “Mack’s Destiny,” Macklin “Mack” McGregor is a pleasure-seeking man who was born into a Christian family, but he’s long since strayed from the religious path. His story alternates with that of his lifelong friend Destiny Harding, a single mother whose poor choices have left her…..

Give Thanks!

M. Lyn Walker From Faith to Faith: A McGregor Novel 0 0

I didn’t plan a whole lot of activity for the month of November since a minor surgical procedure was scheduled. Thankfully, I breezed through surgery and my recuperation time was minimal! Using my down time wisely, I worked on another manuscript, finalized upcoming travel plans and sold books. I also studied the Word of God, praying and thanking Him for unseen blessings, as I’ve written about before. My blog this month is short and sweet.

Meditate on this scripture,…..

Lessons Learned Thus Far!

M. Lyn Walker From Faith to Faith: A McGregor Novel 0 1

In the month of October, I participated in six distinctly different book-signing events. Each hostess tailored the agenda to her specific venue. And all activities, I might add were extremely successful. Most importantly, I was able to network and schedule additional events.

Because marketing is a top priority for any author, each invitation encouraged guests who couldn’t attend to purchase a book on line or at their local book retailer, potentially boosting sales. In all, over five hundred invitations…..

It’s Been a Busy Month!

M. Lyn Walker From Faith to Faith: A McGregor Novel 2 0

In August, I waited patiently for the first run of my hard and soft cover books to arrive. Five years ago, I completed my first manuscript, an arduous but accelerating endeavor that pushed me into attempting a second project. Needing major revisions, both manuscripts still slumber in desktop publishing; but From Faith To Faith, my third attempt at creativity was finished. This baby was about to be born, no longer a “dream deferred,” or mom’s “hobby.” Mid month, the books…..
